Every human story you look into has its own celebrations and tragedies. No life is untouched by grief and sorrow.

Each one of us has been hurt or violated deeply. Know that for a fact.

Some are good at hiding, some at sharing, some at ignoring and some at shoving it down and never thinking about it. Each one of us carries some form of hurt.

Every time we are triggered, remember a painful memory from the past, and dwell in it, we are recreating the past itself. We are reinforcing the same pain over and over again.

Why do that to ourselves?

That experience is done and gone. It influenced you, helped shape your being, served its purpose, and is done.

Let it go.

“It’s not that easy,” you say. I agree. It’s become a favorite pastime to go reminiscence about all the ways someone has hurt you, or circumstances betrayed you, or the world didn’t allow you to become who you could have been.

I ask you, would you keep picking on a scab that is healing?

What purpose would that serve? How would that benefit you?

I ask you, would you keep picking on a past hurt that is healing? What purpose would that serve? How would that benefit you?

I ask you, would you choose prison or freedom?

Here is a technique I have found helpful for myself and for my clients to break the habit of revisiting past hurts.

When you notice yourself going in that direction, refocus your energies to positive activities. Where your attention goes, energy flows!

Focus on your breath, diverting your brain from thought to connecting with self and getting centered.

Remember that when you are recreating that pain, your body perceives it as happening NOW and releases stress hormones to counter it.

Be compassionate with yourself. The goal here is to learn to love ourselves unconditionally, for only then can we love others truly.

Love always,

Anu ❤️🦋
